Indoor sports clubs have increased in popularity greatly over the last few years as people become more concerned about keeping fit and losing weight.  Many people are now turning to indoor sports as a more sociable and fun way to train, with the ability to go with friends or family to work out with in an atmosphere that allows a full integration of ages and abilities.  Other fitness sites such as gyms do not allow the same freedom and families are not able to all train at the same time, this can even happen in swimming pools, where it is usually either a “family” time or “adult” time and both can be as disruptive to family bonding.

There are many different games that people can get involved in at these clubs, such as basketball and volleyball.  These games can be played by people of any ability and at any age.  They can all be played professionally, getting into leagues and also in an amateur way at your own pace.

Basketball is a very popular American game for many years; however, it is now becoming more popular in the UK.  It is a game played with only 10 players (5 on each team) and anything from up to 15 players on a team in total (13-15 in professional teams).  It is a fairly fast paced game, as players tend not to rest for long when handling the ball.  It can be played on a standard marked out court in an indoor centre, the same as can be used by football and netball teams, tennis and badminton players.

Volleyball is a game comprising of two teams of six players that play at a high net trying to ground the ball on the other side of the net.  It was started in 1895 in Massachusetts, though it was originally played with any number of players.  It can be played by people of any age and ability, including those who have a physical disability.  There are three types of volleyball currently being played, standard volleyball, beach volleyball (not an indoor sport) and sitting volleyball (for those with a physical disability).  It can also be played professionally and in the amateur leagues.
